April Fools has escalated into an entertaining web event. Blogoscope has a long list. Google seems to dominate it. It appears each department want in on the hijinx. Best of show goes to Youtube, who rickrolled us all. I might had been fooled by this announcement had I not seen it on the list of gags. Blizzard has a handful of funny announcements as well:

Life Hacker heralds April Fools with a list of 10 geek pranks. I’ve attempted something similar to 6 of them through the years. I caused the most trouble when I tricked a co-worker into blasting the phrase “Tickle my fanny and I’ll yelp like a woman” to the entire company using the NET SEND command. It might have been better received had I waited for tensions from the last round of lay offs to die down first. Ho boi.

Koreans

Back in January the FDA announced that cloned meat is safe to eat. In a similar move, today I read that a South Korean company will clone your dead dog for $150,000. (drumroll)

Last month I learned that Duluth is a mecca for South Koreans. That is, if you mention this particular Atlanta suburb to an average person walking about Soul chances are they will know exactly where you are talking about. For years I knew Duluth had a strong Korean presence, but all cities have parts that are heavily influenced by a particular culture. Who knew Duluth was so special?

Fun Science Videos

Discover Magazine ran a contest for the best 2 minute video that explained basics behind String Theory. The winner is titled String Ducky. I think the narrator may be Dexter’s real-life seester, not to be confused with steupid Dee Dee. I just learned of the results this morning, which is quite a coincidence given our recent dinner conversations. The video reminded me of another scientific short I enjoyed. It is a 10 minute video promoting a book titled Imagining the Tenth Dimension. The video does a fantastic job illustrating the lower dimensions and gracefully moves to describe what it higher dimensions might entail. It concludes by explaining how the author believes this fits into popular variations of String Theory.

I am fascinated by drinks the suspend the require an opaque liquid suspended in a clear one. This summer I ran around town trying to create by own Jellyfish shooter. This Halloween I find a photo of a Bloody Brain. It’s no where near as interesting as the Jellyfish, but It would make fun detail to add to an adult costume party.

Trivia buffs rejoice! You Don’t Know Jack has returned. New episodes are available on the web.

The site is peppered with the phrase “BETA”. Based on some less-than-subtle questions on the registration page, I would wager the company plans to charge for additional content. (Question: “How do you prefer to support premium content? monthly? Micro-payments?”) Clearly the writers deserve to be compensated. I wish my blog entries were half as witty as the question titles the game uses. Then again, you’re talking to the fellow that listens to NPR everyday except pledge week. Hey, but if I ever need a tote bag I know where to direct my tax deductible donations.

Honeymoon Destination: Earth

I’ve started hunting for honeymoon locals. I’ve narrowed it down to someplace on earth after reading this. It says NASA’s response is “Don’t ask, don’t tell” when asked if any astronauts done the deed in zero G. I’d be the first to get my galactic groove on, but the low blood pressure of zero G means inflates one head and deflates another. That last two things I need are more headaches and less blood in my *ahem* extremities. I suppose I’ll just have to “defy gravity” here on Earth.

Besides, the final frontier is a bit pricey for the Sheppard budget. Maybe my in-laws could rig up something similar to a rocket ride for less money.
